Carl Hiller

Carl Hiller was born 1846 in Wurzburg (Germany, Bundesland Bavaria, situated on the river Main), where he obtained a higher education, graduated from Wurzburg University. In 1868 he started his juridical practice at the local court. In three years Hiller passed his practical exam and after that worked as a lawyer and judge. Practicing law he didn’t leave theoretical courses with the aim to obtain the academic degree.
He reached his goal when in December 19, 1871 he defended PhD thesis at the University of Heidelberg. But after that till the end of 1972 Carl Hiller continued to elaborate upon the subject «Legality of management with regard to the disappearance of resistance» and worked on the position of the inofficial candidate in the sphere of jurisprudence.
September 23, 1875 he was appointed on a position of the professor of Austrian material and formal criminal law at Chernivtsi University, where he headed the Department of the Criminal Law and Process at which he worked till 1898.
Carl Hiller lived in Chernivtsi,
Herengasse St., 7. Now in Chernivtsi this street has the name O.Kobylyanska Street.

He was elected the President of the University on the period of 1885-1886. Also Carl Hiller was elected the vice-president in 1886-1887 and 1892-1893, member of the academic senate in 1880-1881 and 1890-1891, the Dean of the Faculty in 1882-1883, 1887-1888, 1895-1896, Dean Assistant in 1883-1884, 1888-1889, 1896-1897.
Carl Hiller died April 24, 1905 in Gratz. At that period he worked on the Dean's position at the Faculty of Law of Gratz University.
